Since I began this blog I’ve been wanting to capture some snaps of my hometown of Cobh and try to see for myself just what draws thousands of tourists here every year. It’s true that when you live in a place for so long it’s charm no longer jumps out to you and instead you may see yourself focusing on the negative aspects of a place rather than all the beauty and little quirks it has to offer. Viewing Cobh through my camera lens yesterday really helped me appreciate the place all the more and seeing just how much fun my boys had in the promenade as I went trekking up hills to get some photos, made me think that perhaps we should spend more time in our hometown and not try to get out of it as much as we currently do.
The Lusitania memorial in the centre of one of the squares, note more coloured buildings, the town is full of them. People on my Instagram have likened it to Balamory!

The huge Queen Mary 2 was sailing out from Ringaskiddy and sailed right past the town. It’s so strange to hear a very loud horn going off and then seeing a massive ship looming from behind the buildings.

I have to share more pictures of these houses because I’ve literally just been informed that this is the steepest street in Ireland, no wonder I almost had a heart attack walking up it!

I LOVE that little town. It's so cute and colorful. We just don't see things like that here in the US – I love Ireland.

First of all, your little fella is too adorable! I can definitely see why your town is a huge tourist attraction. All of your photos are beautiful. I love the Rainbow Houses and I would totally sit in that gazebo and watch the water for no real reason except for the relaxation. The cruise ship is a really fun photo!
Oh my goodness! I just love the colours – it's the most beautiful place I've seen I think! I love the hills too, it reminds me of home [Wales] in the valleys. There's nothing like a good walk uphill to make you appreciate the fresh air!
Wow, beautiful! I do agree we don't appreciate a place when we live there. I lived in New York for 22 years and didn't really get to explore the city. Now that I live in another state – I regret not getting to know my birth place more. I need to take a trip to Ireland one day! such beautiful scenery!
I'm guilty of not appreciating where I live, even though it's gorgeous. Sometimes, when the news comes on and those horrible war-torn countries are shown, I realize just how lucky I am. It's still no Cobh, though!
It is a beautiful place to live! That's why I miss a town that I lived in, because I was fascinated with the history and architecture. I have a fine appreciation for both. 🙂

Wow! You live in an absolutely beautiful place. I live in a tourist town too and often fail to see its charm until I have friends that come up for a visit and want me to take them some place cool. I love those brightly colored buildings and I just have to say your son's curls are so darn cute!! I think that first hair cut will probably make you cry right?

Okay, so I am about to go pack my bags and book a flight because I think I am in love with this town. This looks like the perfect place to raise a family in a small town environment where everyone knows and looks out for each other. It's absolutely beautiful!

Although the architecture is quite different – the colours of the homes and the building shapes and sizes reminds me a lot of my home province: Newfoundland Canada. We're a huge fan of colour 🙂

I don't think we ever appreciate where we live in the same way tourists do. We become numb to the charms everyone else sees, and I certainly do see it where you live!
I like to see the strip of colorful houses in cobh. I'd also love to try walking up those steep streets.

Cobh looks absolutely stunning!! Ireland is one of those place I just have to see before I die – the closest I've been was back in February, when we were flying over it to get to London. I kept my wistful gaze on the lush green land the whole distance. I am definitely adding your hometown to my Ireland itinerary! (And your son is a little doll! So sweet!)
I'm jealous of you. We also live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, but the oldest buildings around here are maybe 75 years old and almost everything is concrete and glass when we do go to a city. Everything around you is so steeped in history and character, my head would probably explode with delight just trying to get groceries.
