As a mom to three boys who never stop moving, I’ve come to truly appreciate the simple joy of a family walk. Whether we’re wandering under leafy trees, strolling by the sea, or scampering along fairy trails, there’s something so grounding and wholesome about just being outdoors together and if you’re looking for the best family-friendly walks in Cork, look no further.
Here in Cork, we’re spoiled with beautiful walking spots that are perfect for families, easy going trails, buggy-friendly paths, and places where little legs can run free and curious eyes have so much to explore. Before heading off on your walk, it’s worth checking out this guide on how far kids can walk by age, just so you have a realistic expectation of how far you can get before the kids ask to be carried!
Here are our favourite family-friendly walks in Cork, perfect for slow days, nature discoveries, and memory-making moments.

1. Rostellan Wood, East Cork
Rostellan Wood is such a gorgeous spot to go for a walk and my boys love exploring the woods and all the ruins it holds. There’s even a tree swing in the midst of the ruins which makes for a lot of fun. After completing the loop around the woods (and climbing various trees!), we love to go visit the swans, which there are a lot of living in the water right by the wood entrance. It’s like a fairytale scene every time when they all swim over!
If you want to extend your time out with a trip to a playground, Whitegate is just down the road and has a great one.
2. Fitzgerald’s Park
A firm favourite of ours! With wide, flat paths perfect for buggies and scooters, a fabulous playground, and the River Lee flowing gently alongside, Fitzgerald’s Park is always a hit. We love bringing a picnic, watching the ducks and wandering across the beautiful Daly’s Bridge (aka the Shakey Bridge!).
Pop into the free Cork Public Museum while you’re there—it’s a great little add-on to your walk!

3. Little Island Loop Walk
Clashadovig, the Little Island Loop Walk, is somewhere we go quite often as it’s a dog-friendly walk and we like to take our girl Daisy out with us too. The walk is easy enough as the route is fully tarmacked, so it’s great for buggies and wheelchairs. It also has lovely sea views and starts with a great playground at the car park.
Bring a picnic and enjoy it on the benches at the highest point of the walk, which is midway, for lovely sea views while you eat.
3. Ballincollig Regional Park
Spacious, peaceful, and full of variety, Ballincollig Regional Park is brilliant for families. There are woodland trails, open fields for a runabout, and even a fairy trail if you keep your eyes peeled. The playground there is fantastic too and my boys love it! The old gunpowder mills add a historical touch that older kids love exploring.
Parking is plentiful, and it’s dog-friendly too—great for the whole gang!
4. The Marina & Blackrock Castle Walk
For a walk with a view, the Marina Walk from Páirc Uí Chaoimh to Blackrock Castle is a peaceful, scenic route. The river is ever-present and calming, and there are boats to watch, birds to spot, and even a coffee cart or two for grown-up fuel.
End your walk with a visit to Blackrock Castle Observatory—kids love it!

5. Glenbower Wood, Killeagh
A woodland wonderland with wide gravel paths, babbling brooks, bridges, and fairy doors hiding in the trees—Glenbower Wood feels like stepping into a storybook. My boys always run ahead in search of fairies or sticks to build dens with.
There’s a lovely little playground nearby too—perfect for playtime post-adventure.

6. Fota Gardens
This is our favourite spot for a stroll and I’ve loved it here since the boys were small as it’s so safe and quiet for them to run around and explore. It’s also one of the most beautiful gardens in Ireland, and as a nature lover, I love walking through here each season.
There’s a café on site during the spring and summer months. You can order through the window at the front of the house – which makes it easy to grab a coffee or cake quickly when you’ve little ones in tow.
Family walks aren’t just about exercise—they’re about connection, fresh air and finding joy in the everyday. I love the walks my boys and I have together, we always have lots of fun and end up having lots of lovely chats as we stroll along too. Whether you wander far or just to your local park, the magic is in being together, exploring nature one step at a time.
